Grinding Steel Ball

Grinding steel balls are spherical media for coarse and fine grinding in ball mills. Rolled from 65Mn, B2, B3 or GCr15 steel, they provide point contact for high impact energy, with surface hardness of 6065 HRC and uniform wear resistance.

Product Introduction

Our Grinding Steel Ball are rolled from round bars on skew rolling mills – the same mills we build ourselves. We use 65Mn, B2, B3 or GCr15 steel. After rolling, they go through quenching and tempering. Surface hardness runs 6065 HRC, core hardness 5560 HRC. Impact toughness is 1235 J/cm², depending on the grade. One of our customers, a copper mine in Inner Mongolia, tested our 80mm balls against forged ones. The wear rate was 15% lower, and they got 200 more hours of grinding before recharge.

Parameters, Advantages, Our Process, Packaging

Parameters

Grinding Steel Ball Diameter: 20mm to 120mm. Hardness: 6065 HRC surface, 5560 HRC core. Impact toughness: 1235 J/cm². Material: 65Mn, B2, B3 or GCr15. Sphericity tolerance: ≤0.5mm. No internal porosity.

Advantages

Skew rolling eliminates pores and voids. The grain structure is uniform, so balls don't crack or break in service. Compared to cast balls, our rolled balls have 30% lower wear rate. Compared to forged, they are 1015% tougher. A cement plant in Hebei switched from cast balls to ours and saved $12,000 per year on grinding media alone.

Our Process

We cut round bars, heat them with induction to 10501100°C, then roll them through our own skew rolling mills. One pass, done. Then quench, temper, and inspect. Every batch gets hardness tested. We also run a drop test – five drops from 2 meters onto a steel plate. No cracks allowed.

Packaging

Bulk bags (1 ton each) or steel drums. Wrapped and strapped on pallets. Sea freight. Lead time: 2030 working days for 20 tons. Smaller orders in stock.

FAQ

Q: Cast vs rolled – what's the difference?

A: Cast balls have internal porosity, lower density. Rolled balls are solid, wear slower, break less.

Q: Can you make nonstandard sizes?

A: Yes. 25mm, 35mm, 45mm, 55mm – any size between 20 and 120mm.

Q: Do you provide test reports?

A: Yes. Hardness, impact toughness, chemical composition, and drop test results with every shipment.
