Flexible Tyre Coupling

The flexible tyre coupling uses a reinforced rubber tyre to connect two flanged hubs. It is commonly applied on crushers, mixers, and dredge pumps where large misalignment and shock absorption are required.

Product Introduction

This flexible tyre coupling consists of two cast iron flanges and a rubber tyre with studs or ribs that engage with recesses on the flanges. When torque is transmitted, the tyre deforms in shear, which provides high flexibility and excellent shock absorption. The rubber tyre can accommodate significant angular and parallel misalignment without placing stress on the connected equipment. Under normal operating conditions, the tyre also dampens torsional vibrations and reduces noise. We have supplied these couplings for rock crushers and ball mills where misalignment is difficult to control.

Product Parameters

The torque range runs from 100 Nm up to 30,000 Nm, depending on the tyre size and compound. Bore sizes are available from 20 mm to 150 mm. Maximum speed is 3000 rpm. Angular misalignment capacity is up to 4 degrees, parallel misalignment up to 3 mm, and axial misalignment up to 5 mm. The operating temperature range for standard rubber is from -30°C to +80°C.

Advantages

Compared to other flexible tyre coupling, the rubber tyre can handle much larger misalignment, which simplifies installation and allows for thermal expansion of shafts. The coupling requires no lubrication because the tyre is dry running. The tyre acts as a sacrificial element: it will fail before damaging the flanges or connected machines, thereby protecting expensive equipment. Replacement is straightforward; you simply slide off the old tyre and push on a new one without moving the hubs. Under normal conditions, tyre life ranges from one to three years, depending on operating temperature and torque peaks.

Packaging & Logistics

We machine the flanges from ductile iron or steel and coat them with anti-rust paint. The rubber tyres are compression moulded with textile reinforcement for high tear resistance. Lead time for standard flange bores is 20 to 30 working days. Common sizes are kept in stock. We can ship by sea or air freight, depending on your destination.

Customization

We can customise bore sizes and keyways to your drawing. For oily environments, we offer tyres made of oil-resistant nitrile rubber (NBR). Tyre hardness can be adjusted (Shore 75A to 90A) for different damping requirements. Stainless steel flanges are available for corrosive conditions.

FAQ

Q: How long does the rubber tyre last?

A: Typically one to three years. In clean, low-torque applications with moderate temperatures, it can last longer. High torque peaks or extreme heat will shorten tyre life.

Q: Can the tyre be used in oily or greasy environments?

A: Standard natural rubber tyres degrade when exposed to oil and grease. For such conditions, we recommend an oil-resistant NBR tyre. Please specify your working environment when ordering.

Q: Do I need precise shaft alignment with this coupling?

A: No. The tyre allows up to 4 degrees angular misalignment, so rough alignment is usually sufficient. However, exceeding the recommended misalignment will accelerate tyre wear and reduce service life.
